# Why doesn't Smart Search find documents?

Why Smart Search can find media but cannot access documents such as PDFs.

Smart Launcher can access media files, but Android does not allow it to access other files in device storage without special all-files access. That access requires approval from Google Play and is generally granted only to file managers. As a launcher, Smart Launcher cannot request this permission, so Smart Search cannot find documents such as PDFs or text files.
